I am perhaps best known as a mission-driven leader..png

As leaders, we have to model the behaviors we want to engender in our teams.

Personally, I want to empower people to improve their health and achieve a sustainable work/life balance.

If we fail to do this - if we model “work until you fall down” practices - then what kind of people will we attract to our organizations?

Mission {what grounds me}

To empower and mentor the next generation of leaders with knowledge, skills, behavior and self-awareness to lead generative, sustainable change and endurance for generations to come.

My Approach {how i engage}

  • Align with the organization and individual's mission, vision, values, and strategies

  • Capitalize on individual and team strengths, transferring knowledge and skills

  • Provide an individualized, timely, efficient, and cost-effective plan with measurable outcomes

Values {what guides me and my work}

Transparency
Respect
Authenticity
Courage
Excellence

It was my great privilege to work with Nancy at PeaceHealth. She's very relationship oriented, and values listening to people, helping each to see their value. She's fun, action-oriented, warm, and a good strategist. Nancy helps her team improve by focusing on a limited number of highest priority initiatives. -Ron Benfield, CFO, Columbia Network at PeaceHealth

Nancy develops teams of leaders, good people doing good work whom Nancy cultivates to become great leaders. In my experience, Nancy's "Memo to Team" is one of the best -- take personal responsibility to understand the work of your teammates and speak up about a broad perspective that's best for the organization, not just the expertise you represent. It's her own confidence and strength as a leader that empowers Nancy to recruit and develop strong people around her. If you're familiar with the concept of a leader "Dancing Alone" envision the opposite when you think of Nancy's leadership style. Everyone is in the dance.  -Mark McCampbell, Senior Consultant, Strategic Partnerships at Advancement Resources

Nancy is a caring leader who inspires others with her focus on the vision and mission of an organization. She is respected both inside an organization and outside by her peers in the industry. She is willing to learn, grow in her leadership and do the right thing for others. -David Couper, CEO Coaching and Consulting with CSuite and Senior Leaders in Healthcare on Culture Transformation

Nancy is an exceptional mentor and coach. As a physician leader it is not always easy to find someone willing and able to offer feedback effectively. I was privileged to work closely with Nancy for several years, and I grew to deeply appreciate her unique development style. Nancy is direct, constructive, values-based and outcomes-oriented. She is also totally accessible and repeatedly demonstrates her commitment to your success through frequent contact, check in's and short messages, sometimes when least expected and needed most. Brutal honesty paired with deep trust and support--a winning combination in my book. -Steve Gordon, MD, National healthcare principal at Point B

I have had the pleasure to work with Nancy for the past 10 years. She communicates and relates well with physicians. Her ability to communicate vision, mission and values is one of her great talents. She has great insight into healthcare and can lead change in an organization. She connects quickly and honestly with all whom she meets. An exceptional leader with great character, honesty, and transparency. Truly remarkable person. -Kenneth Bachenberg, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Patient Safety Officer at PeaceHealth

This coaching engagement came at the perfect time for me. I really learned a lot from Nancy and grew stronger from her guidance. My executive team is stronger because of her help as well. She exposed me to things that seem obvious to me now, but were outside of my field of view. I appreciate that I was able to be authentic during my one-on-one’s with Nancy and not feel like I had to maintain a certain appearance. That’s not to say that the coaching was easy – after all, it’s extra work and effort – all of which is on top of the normal ‘day job’. But with most anything, you get out what you put in and Nancy will challenge you all the way. Advancement in one’s career exposes you to increasingly complex situations and matrixed relationships. This experience with Nancy was positive and set me up for success to navigate this next stage of my career.

Thank you,

After thirty years working in the healthcare profession as a physician, I am able to recognize true leadership and enthusiastically affirm that Nancy embodies it, understands it, and helps develop it like no other. Nancy’s frankness, honesty, trustworthiness, and capacity to fully understand and articulate complex, multi-faceted issues were key reasons I advocated sale of our large multi-specialty clinic to her organization a decade ago as a board director of Madrona Medical Group. Nancy has helped me develop personally and professionally over the past fifteen years, including recently assisting me to obtain an encore career dream job. And if she can’t help you, she’ll connect you with someone who can. I endorse her wholeheartedly and unequivocally!"

My challenge: plan and implement a board retreat for a newly formed board of 12 members, some new to the organization and some returning to the board after years of dysfunction. My solution: Nancy Steiger.
Nancy brought great knowledge, experience, and a no-nonsense approach that allowed me to lead the newly formed board from the past to the future. During the retreat Nancy steered the members to draft mission and vision statements, choose leadership, and develop organizational goals to guide the work of staff and stakeholders. Nancy facilitated tough conversations and helped members listen to one another to seek understanding. I highly recommend Nancy as a consultant for governance, board development, or leadership assistance.  -Dawn Bonder, Client

“Nancy’s style is engaging and direct. She is able to diagnosis opportunities for improvement very quickly and astonishingly accurately. Her approach is practical and targeted at getting the desired results, realizing that the demands of the job continue during the coaching experience so there’s no time to waste. I’d call it precision coaching and it was just what I needed. My engagement for coaching with Nancy was supplemented by homework, including reading assignments, which were extremely valuable and not overly burdensome. Nancy made herself available throughout the engagement and was always responsive to my requests. My 360 survey baseline was fairly strong but there were areas for improvement and my post coaching survey indicated success in several areas, including delegation, accountability, change management, and conflict resolution. Most importantly, Nancy’s coaching gave me more confidence and a much needed attitude transformation. I recommend Nancy as an executive coach without reservation.” - President of a 350 Bed Hospital

We beat budget in May by $500k and are trending well for June but still have a $7M gap to close from earlier months. Our off campus ED has more than double the anticipated volume. Yesterday we say 85 patients there so we’ve had quite a few admissions since it opened May 13th. Two more to be added which puts a lot of pressure on us to get our LOS issues resolved so we have room for everyone! (a good problem to have J).

Had a fantastic meeting with Samantha this morning—your ears should have been ringing! I feel like Samantha and I are in a good place again. Things continue to go well with Jim too. I can’t thank you enough!
